What’s Happening at AE?
 Happy Wednesday! We have had several exciting events taking place at Amelia Elementary during the past few days… baby chicks in kindergarten, 5th grade Camp Kern, 4th grade music program, the Easter Egg Hunt as well as K-2 Literacy Night. All of these memorial events would not be able to take place without the support of wonderful parents, volunteers and staff. I am grateful to work in an environment with such a great team dedicated to making our school a great place for kids!!
On Thursday, March 25th, Amelia Elementary hosted their annual Title I Literacy Night, for grades K-2. Mad Cap puppets performed and milk and cookies were provided to all guests. Each student that attended received 3 books and several students won door prizes. The K-2 teachers had materials available to parents, as did the Amelia Library. There were over 266 people in attendance and a great time was had by all! I want to acknowledge all of the hard work Mrs. Burgess and Mrs. Fuller put into making the event a success.
Amelia Elementary students know how to get it done … they use levers, pulleys, wedges, inclined planes, wheel and axles, and screws. After a unit study on simple machines, force, and motion, third grade students used recyclable materials to create their own machines based on what they had learned. Student creativity was wonderful. The projects included a draw bridge, candy dispensers, a tooth fairy catcher, cars, dragsters, a tank, a tow boat, and much more.  Â
