How to Change Spark Plugs for Cars and bikes

Spark plug is very important part for all petrol engines and this can also help us to know how good the engine is running, the carbon formed on the spark plugs can tell us the inner condition of the engine’s combustion chamber. it has different colored indication to know about the engine condition and if the spark plugs are black or grey shoot covering the spark plug electrode the engine is running good and it is clean, if the speak plug looks white that indicates the engine is not going good.Spark plug is a high voltage bridging devise for electricity. When the electricity crosses the bridge which is noting but the gap between both the electrodes inside your engine, the spark produced will ignite the gas vapors, which will make the engine start or run. There are different factors which show effect on the life of the spark plugs like the Driving way, Engine condition, the plugs Quality and many more. In most of the cars, changing the spark plugs is simple and fast and also not an expensive thing. If this is your first time to change plugs, plan 3 or 4 hours after engine cools.

Step 1

First step is you need to identify the ignition system your car has, check if it is DIS Ignition system or HEI ignition system. DIS stands for direct ignition system and HIS means high energy ignition the ignition system has a distributor with cap and rotor. The coil over spark plug is a system in which it has no plug wires and only a just ignition coils. Carefully hold the spark plug wire at the base of the spark plug. Firmly twist the boot to loosen the seal, now remove the spark plug wire or cable. You can refer the vehicles users’ manual if you have any doubt.

Step 2

Basing on the Engine type, number of plugs change. If you have a V8, you’ll have to open the plugs from both sides of the engine to get them out, four on the left and four on the right. If you have a 6-cylinder engine, they may differ so just follow the plug cable and you will find the plug use the proper tools to open and don’t tamper any part of the engine.
