The starter motor on the Surf V6

Surf (4Runner) for a low sum we did expect there to be a few issues. We have already resolved one which was that switch for the rear window was faulty and as a result it did not open, thus preventing us from using the back door to load stuff into the boot. This has been fixed and the boot can now be used in all its glory.

The problem that hit us which travelling around the country was the starter motor. It is on its way out. I have a car like this before and the answer was the use of the heavy hammer. The problem that I had was that I could not see the starter motor when I lifted the bonnet.

As luck we have it we had broken down outside a mechanics. A quick chat and he strolled out with a heavy metal stick, and hit the starter motor. Vehicle started and all was well. The location was then shown to me in c ase it happen again. The picture shows this. The starter motor is in the centre (the in focus bit). Hit just to the right of the bolts and it should free up an iffy starter motor. This picture was taken through the wheel arch of the drivers front side wheel (Right hand drive).
