My kingdom for a thermostat
It's 4 o'clock in the morning, and my house is completely silent. My keystrokes are actually resonating, causing me to wince every couple of seconds because I'm half afraid I'm being too loud. I'm the only person on the first floor (except the dog, who has proven capable of sleeping through earthquakes ), so I'm not sure who I'm afraid I'll awaken. It's also freezing, though this is less startling because I'm usually cold. The house isn't silent because it's 4 AM; it's silent because the furnace is off, rendering the house bereft of heat and noise. I'd been cold for a few days (see above, re: not unusual) but learned yesterday that, for once, I was not alone. Apparently, the thermostat wasn't heating up the place. The alarm system we didn't know about until it went off unexpectedly The dryer The refridgerator The oven (stovetop: functional. Oven: not so much) 2 toilets 1 toilet seat Both bathroom sinks (though I seem to have fixed ours completely by accident) The phones (all of them) The garage door One of the toilets (again, in a different spot) The furnace The heat exchanger
I haven't the dickens what a heat exchanger is, but from my sister's keen Google capabilities, it appears to have something to do with removing hot air from trouble spots and redistributing it throughout the house. Our was corroded. Unsafe to leave on. So, Dad and the maintenance guy turned off the furnace. I don't remember the date, though it was a few weeks ago. We'd moved in and my sister came home for the weekend. We were only on about #9 of Broken Household Items at the time (apparently 10 had happened, but I didn't know about it yet). My brother had placed at Conference (yay!) in extemp and impromptu (yay!) and we were very proud, so we went to Red Robin, my bro's favoritist restaurant in the universe.
